राष्ट्रिय स्वास्थ्य अनुसन्धान परीषद्

The Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC) promotes scientific study and quality research in health in Nepal. It was started as Nepal Medical Research Committee under the Ministry of Health, chaired by the Secretary of Health in 1982 AD (BS 2039). Established in 1991, it operates as an autonomous body, responsible for regulating health research in Nepal by maintaining high ethical standards in health research within the country. Further, it also generates and collates evidences for translation into policy and practices and enhances the research capacity of researchers across the country.

Research Regulation

  1. Screening, reviewing and providing ethical approval of research proposals
  2. Quality assurance of approved research
  3. Promoting establishment and strengthening of IRCs
  4. Monitoring of research centers in collaboration with MoH


Capacity building

  1. Capacity building of health professionals on quality evidence generation through education, training workshops, and providing sponsorship for young researchers
  2. Capacity building of health professionals on evidence synthesis and translation


Evidence Generation

  1. Update the national priority areas for health research in concurrence with MoH and Divisions and centers of DoHS
  2. Conduct and promote primary researches on national priority areas
  3. Generate and provide grants to document evidence on national priority areas


Promoting the use of evidences

  1. Dissemination of health research evidences through workshops, media, summit, journals etc
  2. Developing policy briefs from national and sub national level surveys and research
  3. Strengthen/Support use of research evidences to translate knowledge into policy and practice through meetings, workshops and availability of context specific recommendations
